What the study measured
How it was studied
The first study, published in 2023, described the technique in 30 women from Peru, Colombia and Mexico operated on by three board-certified plastic surgeons trained in ultrasound. It measured each rib angle before surgery, immediately after, at one month and at three months: the angular change held over time.
The later multicentre study followed 3,805 patients from eight countries for one year. The mean angular reduction of ribs 10, 11 and 12 was 10 degrees, with or without associated surgery, and mean waist reduction was 11 cm. Satisfaction was measured with the BODY-Q questionnaire.
What the study does not allow us to claim
In the 3,805-case study, four pneumothorax and one hemothorax were recorded as major complications, and two cases of chronic pain associated with bicortical fractures. All were managed according to standard clinical practice.
Patients in the largest study were women aged 18 to 45. Results from a series are not an individual promise: candidacy is decided by examination.
