Aucun os retiré.
Aucune cicatrice.
Le remodelage costal affine la taille en repositionnant les côtes flottantes et fausses. Contrairement aux procédures qui retirent des côtes, cette technique opère par ponction, avec un instrument adapté, et confirme chaque fracture par échographie plutôt que de se fier au son.
Cette décision est mesurée : dans une étude portant sur 100 patientes, le « clac » de la fracture a été entendu dans 90 % des cas, alors que l’échographie l’a confirmé dans 100 %. Se fier à l’oreille laissait une patiente sur dix sans vérification.

Le risque principal est le pneumothorax, connu dans toute chirurgie de la paroi thoracique et non propre à cette technique.
